Website Use

Our content and resources belong to PetKidz. Please don't copy or misuse them. Be respectful when using our site.

Disclaimer

We're here for support and education, not veterinary or medical advice. Linked resources belong to their creators โ€” we share them for inspiration, not duplication.

All PetKidz materials are protected. Collaborators need written permission to use them. Respect is at the heart of everything we do.

Community & Safety

We uphold animal welfare, child protection, and safe environments for all workshops and services.

Collaboration

Collaborators may pay a subscription fee. Roles, responsibilities, and confidentiality are agreed in writing.

Business Terms

  • Quotes valid for 30 days.
  • Payment due within 7 days of invoice.
  • Liability is limited to the amount paid.
  • We're not responsible for delays caused by events beyond our control.
  • Disputes go through negotiation first, then South African law applies.

๐Ÿพ In short: We protect your privacy, respect your time and money, guard our creative work, and keep our community safe. Clear, fair, and friendly โ€” just like PetKidz.

This is the quick guide โ€” scroll down for the full explanation of our policies.

๐Ÿพ

PetKidz Policies and Liabilities

At PetKidz, we believe rules should feel less like cages and more like open fields. Our policies are written with warmth and clarity, sprinkled with humor to keep tails wagging โ€” while still carrying the full weight of legal protection.

PetKidz is an informal small business enterprise that is currently not required to register for Value Added Tax (VAT) in South Africa.

We want our visitors, collaborators, and contributors to feel safe, respected, and valued. That means protecting your privacy, being fair in refunds, guarding our intellectual property like a treasured bone, and making sure our community walks together in trust.

1. 'Pawtection' of Privacy

Privacy Policy โ€“ POPIA

Your privacy matters to us. PetKidz collects and processes personal information (such as email addresses) for promoting workshops, services, and related activities. All data is handled in accordance with the South African Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and we respect equivalent rights for visitors from other regions.

  • No data will ever be sold for profit.
  • Any request for personal information will be subject to the prior consent of the owner.
  • If someone requests to engage with a person who has shared a memorial in our Memorial Corner (Legacy Tails), PetKidz will first ask permission from the owner before making any link or introduction.

Information we collect

  • Account information โ€” your email address, used to sign in via a secure magic link. We do not store passwords.
  • Purchase information โ€” records of books or sessions you buy, including the email a purchase is linked to and, for gifts, the buyer's and recipient's email addresses.
  • Reading activity โ€” your reading progress, so you can continue where you left off.
  • Content you submit โ€” tributes, pet names, photos, and any messages or booking details you choose to share (for example, a Care Conversation request).
  • Technical and usage data โ€” basic information such as your device, browser, and how you use the site, collected through analytics to help us improve.

How we use it

We use your information to create and secure your account, process purchases and grant access to content you've bought, send transactional emails (sign-in links, purchase confirmations, gift notifications), save your reading progress, display approved tributes, respond to session requests and enquiries, and understand how the site is used. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not send marketing emails unless you have asked us to. You may withdraw consent or opt out of communications at any time.

Payment information

Card and banking details are entered directly with our payment providers (Paystack for ZAR, PayPal for USD) and are never seen or stored by PetKidz.

Service providers & cross-border transfer

We share information only with trusted providers who help us run PetKidz: Supabase (database and authentication), Paystack and PayPal (payments), Brevo (transactional email), and Google Analytics (usage analytics). Some of these store or process data outside South Africa; where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information remains protected. We may also disclose information if required by law.

Security

PetKidz undertakes reasonable technical and organisational measures to safeguard your information, including encrypted connections, access controls, and database-level security rules. While no online service can be completely secure, we work to protect your data and limit access to those who need it. PetKidz shall not be held liable for breaches or disclosures beyond its reasonable control.

Your rights

You have the right to access the information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it (where we are not required to keep it), object to or restrict certain uses, and withdraw consent. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at petkidz@petkidz.co.za. You may also lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe your privacy rights have not been respected.

4. No Vet, Just Friends

General Disclaimer + Respect for Discovery Tails Resources

PetKidz provides supportive and educational resources only. We do not claim to offer professional counselling, veterinary, or medical services. Users engage with PetKidz resources at their own discretion and responsibility. Linked resources (e.g., Discovery Tails) remain the property of their creators โ€” respect is essential.

While these resources are linked from public platforms such as YouTube or other publishers, their accessibility does not grant permission to copy, reproduce, or claim ownership of other people's contributions. Links are provided to conveniently connect visitors with meaningful work, not to authorize its duplication.

5. Guarding the Bone

Intellectual Property Protection Policy

All PetKidz content, branding, training materials, and resources are the exclusive property of PetKidz. Unauthorized reproduction, distribution, adaptation, or derivative creation is strictly prohibited. PetKidz reserves the right to pursue all available legal remedies against infringement, including injunctive relief and damages. Collaborators may only use PetKidz materials under explicit written permission. Any derivative works created in connection with PetKidz remain the property of PetKidz unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Why we guard the bone: PetKidz seeks to maintain a core sentiment of respect and moral value. We are fully aware that we work with broken hearts and supportive friends, and therefore our intellectual property must be protected with dignity and integrity. Guarding the bone is not only about legal rights, but about safeguarding the trust, compassion, and moral foundation upon which PetKidz is built.
